Kinesio Taping

Kinesio taping is a method of therapeutic taping that aids with rehabilitation.  Through special
tape properties as well as a unique application process learned by certified practitioners, kinesio
tape assists individuals of all ages and skills levels return to activity, everyday tasks and sport
quickly after injury.
 
Benefits of kinesio taping include:

  • Little or no restriction of range of motion with application
  • Noimpairment of circulation
  • Comfort and breathability of the tape due to its elastic, fabric design
  • Latex-free, hypoallergenic adhesive
  • The applications are long lasting (3 to 5 days), allow for 24-hour treatment and may allow multiple problems to be addressed at once with one application.

Any pathology that requires correction of the following can be treated with kinesio taping:

  • Muscle impairment (facilitation or inhibition)
  • Joint and ligament support
  • Pain control and management
  • Reduction of edema and swelling

The technique can help manage acute and chronic conditions such as

Athletic taping

Athletic taping has been widely used over a long period of time to assist health care professionals
with the recovery of their patients.  Proper application and use can assist individuals participate
more effectively in daily activities or optimize performance in sport or competition.
 
Depending on the nature of the tape application, athletic taping can be used for a brief period of
time or over the course of a couple days.  The method of taping can often be taught by
practitioners to their patients for home use and the supplies are fairly inexpensive.  In some cases,
athletic taping may be an appropriate substitute for large, cumbersome, expensive braces.

Main uses for athletic taping include:

  • Postural re-training
  • Increased stability for joints or lax (loose) ligaments
  • Joint position
  • Correction and increased support for tissues

Other uses may be appropriate depending on present pathology.  Examples of conditions that may be treated with athletic taping include:

  • Knee pain
